Proposed Missouri ‘scholarship’ bill is ridiculous

Rep. Rick Brattin, R-Harrisonville, filed a proposed bill that states, “Any college athlete who calls, incites, supports, or participates in any strike or concerted refusal to play a scheduled game shall have his or her scholarship revoked.”

We all know why he submitted this bill; it’s in reaction to the proposed strike by Mizzou’s football players in November. But let’s think about this for a minute. And, as always, context is key.

Let’s say, for example, a group of players arrives at Mizzou and decide they want to maintain 18-21 hours per semester so that they can graduate early and get their master’s degree before they’re finished playing.
