Cierra Porter, her younger sister, had just told Bri that she was thinking about returning to the Missouri women’s basketball program about five months after she had medically retired. Bri laughed during the phone call. No way could Cierra come back with the problems her knees had given her, especially last season as a junior.
Bri called their mom, Lisa, and found out that, yes, Cierra was thinking about returning to the team. A month later, Missouri coach Robin Pingeton teased a comeback on Twitter. On Dec. 29, the team announced Porter’s return.
“(Retiring) just wasn’t part of (Cierra’s) original intention for her career, and that was really hard to let go of,” Bri said in an interview last month.
