COLUMBIA, Mo. — With Gov. Mike Parson’s signature Thursday, the state of Missouri’s reformed name, image and likeness law goes into effect Aug. 28, when it officially becomes one of the country’s least restrictive laws overseeing how college athletes can profit from their endorsement rights.
The two sweeping changes under the new law, packaged with House Bill 417 and passed by state lawmakers in May, coaches and administrators at Missouri colleges can be more actively engaged with athletes’ NIL negotiations, while Missouri high school athletes can begin earning NIL revenue when they sign with in-state colleges.
