As Gahn McGaffie swaggered his way across the goal line on his opening kickoff return touchdown, approximately zero of the more than 65,000 screaming Tiger fans would wager that it would be 14 years before the Sooners would step foot on Faurot Field again. In the decade and a half since #11 Mizzou knocked off #1 Oklahoma, Faurot Field has hosted plenty of big games: 2012 Georgia, 2013 South Carolina and Texas A&M, 2014 Arkansas, 2018 Kentucky, 2020 LSU, 2023 LSU and Tennessee; but never since that Homecoming night in 2010 has Memorial Stadium shaken in the same way it did when McGaffie announced Mizzou’s intention of knocking of the top-ranked Sooners.
