COLUMBIA, Mo. — A few months ago, there existed a notion that Missouri and Oklahoma’s rekindling of a football rivalry could come with high stakes.
Maybe the first weekend in November would bring ESPN’s “College GameDay” to Columbia for the first time since 2010, when the Tigers upset the top-ranked Sooners. The network had a segment profiling Mizzou wide receiver Luther Burden III ready for that kind of situation.
Both teams had paths to the College Football Playoff: MU through its favorable schedule, OU through the strength of its resume.
That was but a mirage.
