COLUMBIA, MO. • Missouri’s new assistant football coach has a familiar name: Brian Odom.
Tigers head coach Barry Odom has hired his younger brother to replaced departed cornerbacks coach Greg Brown, the school announced Friday. With the move, Odom will reshuffle his staff, assigning safeties coach Ryan Walters to coach the entire secondary while Brian Odom will handle outside linebackers. Defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross will coach inside linebackers.
Brian Odom, 35, a former administrative assistant and defensive graduate assistant at Mizzou in 2005, has spent the last two seasons as a defensive quality control coach at Washington State, where he’s helped coach linebackers under coordinator Alex Grinch, a former Mizzou assistant.
