Baker
COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri’s third defensive coordinator in three years is not here to talk about the past. Blake Baker doesn’t mind discussing his history, but not Mizzou’s necessarily. And certainly not 2021.
That’s part of his core message to his assistant coaches and players this spring as he settles into a role he never imagined would be his — at least not this quickly — when in January he agreed to coach the team’s safeties after having been Louisiana State’s linebackers coach. A few weeks later, though, MU coordinator Steve Wilks returned to the NFL, leaving Tigers coach Eli Drinkwitz with a pivotal choice: Hire another outsider or trust the defense in Baker’s hands.
