COLUMBIA, MO. • In 15 seasons at Missouri, Gary Pinkel coached 36 football players who became NFL draft picks, and few landed in a better situation than center Evan Boehm. A fourth-round choice by the Arizona Cardinals last Saturday, Boehm could hunch over and snap his way into an immediate starting job.
The Cardinals, fresh off a 13-3 regular-season, didn’t re-sign veteran center Lyle Sendlein and will match Boehm against eight-year pro A.Q. Shipley in a training camp competition. Shipley, on his fifth team since Pittsburgh drafted him in the seventh round out of Penn State in 2009, started three games for the Cardinals last season.
