Mizzou's Odom insists Cross not fired for on-field struggles

COLUMBIA, MO. • A day after firing defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross, Missouri coach Barry Odom settled a few unanswered questions Monday during his weekly conference call with reporters.

1. Cross wasn’t fired for the team’s on-field performance, which you also read here, but for “philosophical differences.”

2. Odom will take on Cross’ duties of coaching the team’s inside linebackers.

3. Athletics director Jim Sterk was involved in the decision.
