A jumper late in the first quarter of Saturday’s Southeastern Conference tournament semifinal round, in Greenville, S.C., sealed Sophie Cunningham’s spot in the Missouri women’s basketball record book. With the shot, she became MU’s career leading scorer.
But Cunningham’s 33-point performance against Mississippi State wasn’t enough to overcome the top-seeded Bulldogs, who pulled away early and won 71-56 for a spot in the championship game. On Sunday they’ll face Arkansas, which beat Texas A&M 58-51 in the semifinals.
“I’m so excited for (Cunningham), just her accomplishment becoming the all-time leading scorer at the University of Missouri,” Missouri coach Robin Pingeton told reporters after the game.
