COLUMBIA, Mo. • As he walked off Faurot Field, the only graybeard among the Missouri wide receivers — more like red in this case — Wesley Leftwich playfully pulled his shoulder pads over his face, trying to extend his role as the forgotten man in Mizzou’s youngest offensive position group.
Not going to happen — at least not Saturday.
Leftwich, the team’s lone senior wideout, caught one of five touchdown passes in Saturday’s scrimmage, which served as a reminder that the vertical pass is still part of the Mizzou playbook. Who knew?
The Tigers struggled to complete downfield throws during the spring scrimmages, but Saturday’s three-hour dress rehearsal might have eased some concerns about a young receiver corps — and quickened pulses over the team’s quarterback of the future.
