Mizzou to increase women's basketball investment with new coach, AD says

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Missouri athletics is preparing to increase its investment in women’s basketball as it hires a new coach for the program, looking to elevate a slumbering program into one that can compete in the Southeastern Conference.

Meeting with reporters Friday to outline the parameters of his first high-profile coaching search since becoming Mizzou’s athletics director a little under a year ago, Laird Veatch expressed both optimism about MU’s chance to elevate its women’s hoops team and the understanding that such an upgrade will require more money to materialize.

“We’re committed to it,” Veatch said. “It’s important.
