COLUMBIA, Mo. — Of all places, the 2020 Missouri baseball season came to a screeching halt at Midway International Airport in Chicago.
That’s where the Tigers landed last Thursday on their circuitous path to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for the first Southeastern Conference series of the season. But bad news greeted them in the Windy City.
As soon as the team landed to catch a connection to Birmingham, coach Steve Bieser received a message: In response to the coronavirus, the SEC put the spring sports calendar on pause, suspending all games through the end of the month. The team scrambled to find a bus for a long ride back to Columbia.
