Mizzou men's hoops blows 13-point lead in second half, loses season opener at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Cue the delta blues.

Missouri men’s basketball started the 2024-25 season with a feisty first half but stalled in the second frame, losing its opener 83-75 on the road against Memphis.

MU got its first-half scoring contributions from unlikely players showing possible signs of developmental leaps: second-year forward Trent Pierce scored 10 points in the first half while third-year forward Aidan Shaw had nine on 4-for-4 shooting.

The visitors had a 10-point lead at halftime but watched that erode in the second half during a 25-point swing that saw Missouri go from leading by as many as 13 in the second frame to losing by as many as 12.
