COLUMBIA, Mo. — It was more than a photo op for the Missouri football program.
Yes, there were some powerful images captured by the team’s in-house photographer that were soon plastered on Mizzou’s social media accounts.
But after Wednesday’s symbolic walk of solidarity across campus to honor George Floyd and the kneel-down at the Boone County Courthouse, the players took action. Sixty-two members of the 2020 football team registered to vote.
As they walked from The Columns on Mizzou’s Francis Quadrangle to the downtown courthouse, first-year coach Eliah Drinkwitz joined his players, his entire coaching staff and other members of the Mizzou athletics department, including basketball coaches Cuonzo Martin and Robin Pingeton, along with UM system president Mun Choi and officers from the Columbia Police department.
