COLUMBIA, Mo. • Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk’s subpar scrimmage Saturday coincided with an impressive debut by his freshman understudy.
In his first college scrimmage, Drew Lock coolly led the third and fourth units to a couple of scores. He never looked flustered and routinely delivered catchable passes with precision. He completed 74 percent of his throws and averaged 7.3 yards per completion — compared to 45.5 percent and 5.5 yards per attempt for Mauk — and inspired at least one coach to compare the performance to Chase Daniel’s days as a precocious rookie 10 years ago.
