Former Missouri swimmer and U.S. National Team member Hannah Stevens has retired from swimming, she said Monday. She has struggled with back problems for the past year, which led her to sign retirement papers with USA Swimming.
Last summer, Stevens won the national championship in the 50-meter backstroke, giving her a spot on the U.S. World Championship team. She finished ninth in the world in the 50 and also earned three medals at the 2017 World University Games.
In four years at Missouri, Stevens was a 14-time NCAA All-American. She placed as high as third in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing behind a pair of Olympic medalists in 2017.
