After barely losing his semifinal match, Missouri’s J’den Cox won his bronze medal match against Reineris Salas Perez, the No. 3 wrestler in the world in the 86kg weight class. Both wrestlers were given passivity points, but the match was decided in the final seconds when Cox protested a non-takedown call with six seconds left. The replay committee decided that he had indeed scored a takedown, and Perez, angry at the decision, refused to return to the mat. Cox was awarded the match via disqualification, but he was on the board for a 3-1 win either way.
Cox has become Missouri’s seventh ever Olympic medalist.
