In their season debut, Ryder James (18th), Drew Rogers (22nd) and Blake Morris (24th) paced the Tigers to a third place finish at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational at the Penn State Golf Course, Friday.

At their home opener, Coach Kyle Levermore stressed the importance of sealing gaps mid-race.

James and Rogers followed strategy and passed 10 and 13 runners, respectively, after the 31000-meter mark to hit a dead even 15:21.3 5K split. Then, a few runners squeezed between the teammates, including Georgetown’s Alazar Teffra, who barreled into 19th place out of nowhere after passing 110 runners between the first split and finish.
