COLUMBIA, Mo. • The breakout player of Missouri’s 2014 spring practices became the mystery man of the 2014 season. Morgan Steward, the biggest and fastest tailback on the roster last year, felt a twinge in his hip a few days into preseason camp and was never the same again.
MU coach Gary Pinkel initially described Steward’s injury as a tweaked hip when the sophomore had to leave the field midway through practice last Aug. 8. A day later, tests revealed no further damage, Pinkel told reporters. Steward was considered “day to day” with a strained right hip.
