Everyone voted and decided they’d rather beat Georgia in football than beat Illinois in basketball. I personally think that’s wrong, not crazy, but wrong. I’d much rather beat Illinois, a team with whom you have more in common, than a very likely one-off win against a program whose playing on another level altogether.
Don’t get me wrong, beating Georgia would be great. But Illinois is Mizzou’s basketball peer, if only slightly ahead. Continuing to beat your peer, even in their best years (which this season is undoubtedly that for the Illini) goes a long way and can continue to elevate Mizzou regionally.
