It's an interesting, transitioning age of sports analysis, isn't it? Even from just 10 years ago, sports journalists are using a new array of stats in daily articles, be it OPS+ in baseball or points per 100 possessions in basketball. Yet we still are accustomed to look for a batter's batting average or how many RBIs a guy has – like, that hasn't left the lexicon yet.

Even this week's “Monday Night Football” game, lauded as the greatest offensive performance in NFL history, has been broken down by some stat folks to show that defense did matter – a lot – in that game.
