Sunday felt like a day off, not the day after.
“It doesn’t feel like it’s over,” Sophie Cunningham said by phone. “It hasn’t hit me yet. It feels like Coach gave us a day off and we have practice tomorrow.”
Perhaps Monday will be the day it truly hits Mizzou’s basketball virtuoso — the season is over. No. 5-seeded Mizzou lost Saturday to No. 12-seeded Florida Gulf Coast, despite a season-high 35 points from Cunningham.
“It’s just kind of surreal right now,” she said.
This season’s Mizzou women’s team underachieved when it mattered most.
During this winter, the Tigers were a titillating team at times, capturing the state with the stalwart Sophie, the best-rebounding Porter sibling (Cierra) and the point guard Lauren Aldridge, double-dribbling basketball and law school.
