Gordon: SEC is as good as advertised

The Southeastern Conference is flexing its football muscle again. People up North, back East and out West get tired of hearing this, but that’s just too bad.

Alabama sent strong signals during its opener. The Crimson Tide washed over Wisconsin 35-17 at Jerry World, er, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and looked ready to return to the NCAA’s Final Four.

Elsewhere in Week 1, Texas A&M throttled then-No. 17 Arizona State 38-17, South Carolina edged in-state rival North Carolina 17-13 and Auburn held off the Louisville Petrinos 31-24.

After opening 12-1 in nonconference play, the SEC placed 10 teams — including all seven from the West Division — in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.
