COLUMBIA, Mo. • The Missouri women’s basketball team is 10-0 for the first time in team history and a few votes shy of cracking The Associated Press top 25. Robin Pingeton’s team is the early candidate for the surprise of the Southeastern Conference if not the country.
But the young season has developed exactly as planned for two of its brightest stars.
Freshman guard Sophie Cunningham and freshman forward Cierra Porter only knew winning when they arrived at Mizzou this year, having led Rock Bridge High School to four straight MSHSAA Class 5 championships. The hometown kids expected more of the same with the Tigers, a program that hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since the freshmen were nine years old.
