COLUMBIA, MO. • Missouri freshman guard Frankie Hughes might have a hard time coming up with an encore as impressive as his debut at Mizzou Arena. In his first regular-season game, the rookie from Cleveland put on a shooting clinic Sunday against Alabama A&M in MU’s 99-44 victory, finishing with 23 points, which tied Mizzou’s record for most points by a freshman in his debut game.
Hughes shares the record with a Mizzou legend whose retired No. 40 hangs from the arena’s rafters. Steve Stipanovich also scored 23 points in his first college game, against Southwest Texas State on Nov.
