Fresh off unbeaten season, Orgeron brings revamped LSU to Mizzou

One of the most remarkable coaching stories in college football began its resurrection on Oct. 1, 2016. The Missouri Tigers were there as witnesses.

Nine years earlier, Ed Orgeron’s opportunity to run his own program in the Southeastern Conference came and went at Mississippi. He created a buzz at Ole Miss but couldn’t follow through with victories, going just 3-21 against SEC competition. His chances of becoming a head coach in the game’s best conference were buried right there in Oxford, Mississippi.

One assistant coaching job after another led Orgeron to Louisiana State in 2015, his state school and the place where he believed he was always destined to coach.
