Former Purdue QBs emerge in prominent SEC roles

COLUMBIA, MO. • The division races in the Southeastern Conference could come down to not one but two former Purdue quarterbacks.

Louisiana State has handed the controls to former Boilermaker Danny Etling, who started 12 games at Purdue before joining the Tigers in June 2015. LSU (finally) gave up on the Brandon Harris experiment just in time for SEC play to complement star running back Leonard Fournette with a more credible passer. Etling threw for 215 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions or sacks in Saturday’s win over Mississippi State.

Down at Florida, the Gators lost quarterback Luke Del Rio indefinitely with a knee injury and turned to Purdue transfer Austin Appleby to take over the offense.
