‘Don’t give up on us’: Mizzou basketball’s solemn limp to the finish line

Senior Day was supposed to be bittersweet.

The event is supposed to be a celebration of not just certain player’s individual achievements, but everything they’ve contributed to a program. That was exactly the case at Mizzou Arena on Saturday, as the Tigers honored seven seniors after their game against No. 19 Kentucky — Tamar Bates, Jacob Crews, Josh Gray, Caleb Grill, Tony Perkins, Jeremy Sanchez and Marques Warrick.

Through a walkway bounded by the non-seniors, each of those seven players marched onward alongside loved ones towards Gates. The third-year coach welcomed them with open arms, just like when they first got to Mizzou — in a metaphorical sense, at least.
