IOWA CITY, IOWA • Sophie Cunningham has no doubt in her mind: One day the Missouri women’s basketball team will win a national championship.
The senior guard’s collegiate career ended Sunday with an NCAA Tournament second-round loss to No. 2 seed and host team Iowa when the Hawkeyes ran away with a 68-52 victory and Sweet 16 berth.
Cunningham’s Mizzou career ended anticlimactically with just eight points, but the game didn’t define the legacy she will leave at Missouri.
Her 2,187 career points are more than any player in team history. She’s No. 2 all-time in career 3-pointers with 288.
