COLUMBIA, MO. • Before the 2014 college baseball season, Southeast Missouri State hitting coach Dillon Lawson had a secret meeting with a professor on another college campus. He hoped to discover a competitive edge for his hitters — without his boss finding out.
Lawson didn’t tell SEMO coach Steve Bieser about his conversation with Dr. Peter Fadde, a professor in the College of Education and Human Services at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
“I didn’t know how he’d take that kind of idea,” Lawson said, “if he would think I was crazy or if it was a little too much mad scientist stuff.
