During the recent United States Basketball Writers Association dinner at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, broadcaster Mike Kelly introduced the notable names in attendance.
Sitting over there was former Cardinal Ritter star turned Duke assistant coach Chris Carrawell. SLU coach Travis Ford was in the house, along with two-time Missouri Valley Conference player of the year and former first-round NBA draft pick Junior Bridgeman.
Kelly then took a moment to congratulate a Tiger who had spent the previous days completing his transition from Colorado to Tennessee.
Barnes, who was here to pick up the Henry Iba Award, had just hired former Missouri Tigers guard Kim English to join his Tennessee staff as an assistant coach.
