This isn’t one of those stories.
On my first trip to Tuscaloosa while covering Tennessee in a previous job, I made the mistake of attempting to enter Bryant-Denny Stadium right around the same time as Saban’s Crimson Tide.
Saban was nearing, yet Saban was already there.
As in, Saban, the coach, was walking with his players through a sea of adoring fans toward Saban, the statue.
Unfortunately, I happened to pause for too long between the statue of the coach and the actual coach, apparently stopping in the direct eye line of a very agitated woman who came to see Saban in the flesh, not the 900-pound bronze likeness that debuted in 2011.
