It's becoming a trend that Missouri State head coach Keith Gutin earns milestone wins when the Bears travel to Mizzou.
Only this one had a twist.
Missouri State (12-10, 2-2) topped Mizzou (11-20, 4-8) with a 7-5 victory for Guttin's 1,300th win as the Bears' head coach. He is the third winningest among active Division I head coaches.
And Guttin earned the win without even making the trip to Columbia.
That's right, Guttin gets credit for win No. 1,300 even though he remained in Springfield while dealing with a back injury. Longtime pitching coach Paul Evans served as the Bears' skipper on Tuesday night at the same location Guttin earned his 1,200th win nearly four years ago to the date.
