Three people in southwest Missouri accidentally shot themselves during the opening weekend of firearms deer season, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
None of the injuries proved fatal. Details remain unavailable while MDC completes its investigations, but the injuries are a reminder for hunters to be especially careful when they are handling firearms.
“One of the big things people need to remember is, when hunters are transporting their firearms, they should be unloaded and the actions open,” said Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Hunter Education and Shooting Range Coordinator Justin McGuire.
“Over the years, failure to transport firearms safely has directly led to people injuring themselves and others," he said.
