A man was rescued from a wilderness area after suffering an injury this past weekend in northwest Arkansas.
A 60-year-old unnamed man was hiking with his son in a remote part of the Ponca Wilderness near Buffalo National River on Feb. 27, according to a news release from the National Park Service.
The Bella Vista, Ark., man was injured and unable to hike out on his own. When park rangers responded, heavy fog and a severe thunderstorm were moving through the area.
Rangers assessed the man’s injury, weather conditions and the time of day, and they decided to complete a rescue the next morning because of safety concerns.
