Alligators. Dams. Twisty turns. A broken rudder. When Brad Daniels and his team decided to enter a Texas boat race, they became intimately aware of the different obstacles as they paddled 260 miles.
Despite those hurdles, the River Fitness team still finished second overall out of 140 boats earlier this month in the Texas Water Safari, nicknamed “the world’s toughest canoe race.”
Daniels, who is the Taney County Sheriff, spoke with the News-Leader about those challenges and paddling for more than 37 hours across 260 miles along with teammates Dylan Mchardy, Ryan Slebos, Ryan Martin and Wes Wyatt.
