When graphic designer T.J. Patton and Springfield Cardinals spokesman Matt Turer first came up with the idea to use the Jazz cup logo for the teal jersey game Saturday night, they did not realize the 1990s-nostalgia design originated in Springfield.
Turer said they were thrilled when they found a 2015 News-Leader story about the Jazz design's history and the woman who created it, Gina Ekiss.
Ekiss, who now lives in Aurora, created the iconic design in 1991 while employed at the Sweetheart Cup Company in Springfield.
