Scientists will study impact of wind turbines on eagles, birds in northwest Missouri

Missouri scientists will start tagging eagles in the coming months as they study the impact of wind turbines on the United States' national bird.

Missouri Department of Conservation is partnering with Conservation Science Global, Inc. and the Renewable Energy Wildlife Institute on the study, which aims to investigate the potential threat turbines pose to wildlife.

As wind energy becomes more common and wind turbines more prevalent, eagles, other birds and animals have been hurt and killed after crashing into the blades u2015 on average 418 feet long u2015 and hitting air currents around wind turbines, MDC said in an announcement about the study.
