The rumor mill around Missouri State head football coach Dave Steckel leaving for a defensive coordinator position is starting up again.
Matt Fortuna — a national college football writer for The Athletic —wrote Steckel is "an outside name to potentially keep an eye on" for taking a defensive coordinator position at the University of Illinois.
Illinois is without a defensive coordinator after Hardy Nickerson resigned in late October due to health concerns.
Although Steckel has yet to find much success as the head coach of the Bears, he continues to be a respected defensive mind due to his time as the defensive coordinator at the University of Missouri.
