Missouri residents may soon be able to hunt another species this coming year.
The state’s first black bear hunting season proposal received final approval from the Missouri Conservation Commission Dec. 11 in Jefferson City.
The Missouri Department of Conservation outlined that the season would be limited to areas in the southern portion of the state and only for Missouri residents, via news release. The proposed limited and restrictive black bear hunting season comes after years of public comment and research.
“A bear-hunting season in our state will provide opportunities for Missourians to participate in the sustainable harvest of this valuable wildlife species,” said MDC Furbearer Biologist Laura Conlee via news release.
