As you travel across Missouri, it’s hard not to notice all the small impoundments, most of which were built to provide water for livestock. If it is larger than an acre or two, and many are, you can bet it holds a good population of largemouth bass and bluegill, plus channel catfish and even crappie.
This month, fishing started picking up, according to reports from early anglers who have been catching some good strings of fish — especially bluegill.
Pond fishing is a nice way while waiting for the hot late spring on the big impoundments. They heat up earlier so the fish get active sooner than on the larger waters.
