Pleasant Hope shooting range closes due to unscheduled maintenance, MDC says

Target practice will have to take place elsewhere as one shooting range closes in Polk County.

The Pleasant Hope Conservation Area's unstaffed shooting range will close until further notice starting July 23.

Kyle Lairmore, MDC education section chief, said unscheduled maintenance and repair projects led to the decision.

Once those projects are completed, Lairmore said the shooting range will reopen, but there's no set date at this time. The area is blocked off with signs stating the range is closed, and there are no specifics for what kind of repairs are needed.

"We do periodic inspections to determine what needs to be done first," Lairmore said via email.
