Kickapoo High School broke away from a spunky Blue Eye team with 3-pointers and close-in shots in the second half on Wednesday night in the Pink & White Lady Classic.
The result was a 58-45 victory in the opening round of the Pink Division that was played at Drury University’s Weiser Gym.
The second-half performance was a needed contrast to the first half, when the much taller Lady Chiefs missed lay-ins in bunches. They also missed eight of 10 free-throw attempts.
That Kickapoo led 22-19 at halftime was a testament to constant defensive pressure, fed by waves of multiple-player substitutions.
