The streaking lights in the sky may be abundant as the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak this month.
According to Space.com's skywatcher Joe Roa, the shower will peak Aug. 12, but the meteors can be seen up until Aug. 18.
The moon will set around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 12, with the meteors passing later that night for people to see throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Per Roa's reporting, the Perseids should peak for approximately 12 hours.
"Observers in Eastern Europe are optimally positioned for the Perseid peak, but North Americans are not far behind," Roa writes.
