Pena, Maness set to make appearances with Springfield Cardinals

The parade of players coming from the big-league disabled list through Hammons Field continues this week.

Catcher Brayan Pena will join the Double-A Springfield Cardinals for a rehab stint, starting Tuesday night, while relief pitcher Seth Maness will begin his rehab time on Wednesday night.

Pena, the backup to Yadier Molina, has yet to make his Cardinals’ debut, after a spring training accident led to knee surgery. Pena slipped in the dugout in St. Louis’ second-to-last spring game, and had surgery on his left knee to remove a loose piece of cartilage.

The 11-year veteran was initially expected to miss about a month, but the recovery time has stretched past the two-month mark.
