The hunt for turkeys during fall firearms season is over, and the numbers show the poultry population is continuing to decline.

Preliminary data from Missouri Department of Conservation showed hunters checked 1,846 turkeys during Missouri's fall firearms turkey season Oct. 1-31. Top harvest counties included Franklin at 70 birds, Gasconade with 52 and Laclede at 50.
