There was no official word on Wednesday afternoon about the severity of the injury suffered by Missouri State senior second baseman Aaron Meyer during Tuesday’s game against Missouri.
Bears coach Keith Guttin spoke at an impromptu media gathering on Wendesday and said he caught up with Meyer and his parents in the Hammons Field parking lot after the Bears’ 5-1 victory over the Tigers. Many of Meyer's teammates had stuck around and were able to visit with him, as well.
“It’s bad,” Guttin said of Meyer’s spirits. “This is essentially the end of his career. When you’ve played a sport your whole life, and you come to the park expecting to have an enjoyable game, and you leave knowing you may never, ever play baseball again …”
Meyer was injured in the first inning, trying to avoid a tag after hitting a comebacker that was hauled in by Mizzou starting pitcher Andy Toelken.
