Nixa's Courtney Frerichs has an opportunity to qualify for her second Olympic games when she participates in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the U.S. Olympic trials on Thursday night.
Frerichs, a graduate of Nixa High in 2011, qualified for the finals by placing third during Sunday night's qualifying race in Eugene, Oregon, even after she got tripped up on the second lap of the race.
"Well, last night's prelim was a little more stressful than anticipated but got the job done and qualified for the final!" she posted on Twitter on Monday. "And most important walked away unscathed.
