Nixa High graduate Courtney Frerichs had the run of her life on Friday as she broke the American steeplechase record by fractions of a second.
Frerichs finished in second at the Monaco Diamond League meet but became the fastest American to complete the event. She only finished behind new world-record holder Beatrice Chepkoech, of Kenya.
Frerichs finished with a time of 9:00.85 in the 3000-meter steeplechase while defeating Emma Coburn for the first time in her career. She beat Coburn's American record of 9:00.35.
